New School Community Day High School

Our MISSION at NEW SCHOOL is to HELP students ACCEPT responsibility for their actions,

BELIEVE in themselves, and LEARN to set and ACHIEVE goals. We believe that all students can SUCCEED, and that in a structured, caring, democratic, student-centered,

environment, every individual can make significant PROGRESS toward reaching their POTENTIAL.

Our motto: “Never give up!”

Welcome to New School

New School is a credit recovery high school serving students in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.  Students earn credits at an accelerated rate, allowing each to reach their goal of graduating on time.  Some students choose to return to a traditional program while others decide to remain at New School through graduation.

New School staff and its community partners offer students a variety of services to help each reach their academic goals:

  • Small class sizes
  • Individualized instruction
  • Focus on SBAC preparation
  • Academic counseling
  • Athletics
  • Behavioral counseling
  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Employment assistance

Our Campus Has Video Surveillance of Common Areas.

WATSONVILLE — After years of using an aging minivan and assorted staff vehicles to travel to various activities, New School Community Day School students now have a new way to get around.

School officials have purchased a 2009 nine-passenger Ford van, which was possible thanks to a donation by two people who want to remain anonymous.

According to New School science teacher and athletic director Russell Bryan Love, the donors saw a plea for school vans on the school’s GoFundMe page, and presented the check on Christmas day.

“It was a Christmas miracle,” he said.

The students saw the van when they returned from Christmas break.

“It’s big,” said New School senior Mayte Lopez. “We’ll be able to take more students in less trips to more places. And our other van is trashed.”

Before they received the new van, students relied on a donated 1999 Dodge Mini-van and teachers’ personal vehicles to get students to daily off-campus facilities for science, sports practices, competitions, educational and occupational field trips and community service trips.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude and overjoyed that someone from outside our community was able to see the value of what we do here at New School and make such a generous contribution,” said New School Principal Artemisa Cortez.

Love said the new van is still not quite big enough to hold all its students, and that the school is still hoping for another one.

“There really is no better, more dynamic or immediately impactful donation individuals or organizations can make than contributing to New School’s program,” he said.
